Investigation underway at Des Moines middle school after temporary evacuation

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department said it’s investigating after “suspicious circumstances” resulted in the temporary evacuation of a middle school Monday afternoon.

At around 3 p.m. officials at Goodrell Middle School reported concerns regarding “suspicious circumstances” at the school to the Des Moines Police Department. The DMPD said that the school was evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

After an initial investigation, students and staff were returned to the school and classes were dismissed at around 4 p.m.

Police said that no injuries occurred and that no arrests have been made.

The DMPD said that the investigation into this incident is ongoing. No additional information has been released.
