Fort Dodge man arrested after stabbing outside store Sunday morning

FORT DODGE, Iowa — An arrest has been made in a stabbing that happened outside of a Fort Dodge convenience store on Sunday morning.

The Fort Dodge Police Department said Johnathan D. Clark, 41, of Fort Dodge, is charged with Going Armed with Intent and Willful Injury Resulting in Serious Injury in the incident.

Officers were dispatched to the Star Convenience Store at 1601 5th Avenue S. around 9:08 a.m. on Sunday after a call came in about an altercation outside the store involving two men. The caller said one of the men suffered a stab wound during the scuffle.

A criminal complaint filed against Johnathan Clark claims he stabbed the victim in the right shoulder blade area, which “resulted in serious injury requiring immediate medical intervention from loss of blood.” He also allegedly provided a statement to law enforcement that he had been involved and discarded the weapon in a wooded area after fleeing.

The victim was transported to UnityPoint Trinity Regional Hospital for care and was treated and released.

A deputy with the Webster County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect, and he was taken into custody and booked into the Webster County Jail. According to court records, Johnathan Clark has bonded out of jail.

A no-contact order protecting the victim has been issued.
