ALTOONA, Iowa — The Altoona Police Department is investigating after they say a pedestrian was struck and killed along Hubbell Avenue in Altoona.

Altoona PD says officers were dispatched to Prairie Crossing and Hubbell Avenue on a personal injury accident around 8:48 p.m. Thursday. Officers arrived on scene and discovered a deceased male in the roadway.

Authorities say the preliminary investigation shows a semi truck was traveling northbound in the 3500 block of Hubbell Avenue when it struck a pedestrian in the roadway.

As of 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Altoona PD were on scene with witnesses and the semi truck driver, who authorities say are cooperating with the investigation.

This remains an active investigation and authorities ask residents to avoid the area.
