DES MOINES, Iowa — A fugitive from California is in the Polk County Jail, charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting a man in Des Moines earlier this month.
Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer of the Des Moines Police Department, said Maria Tafolla, 29, is linked to a September 7th shooting in the 2100 block of Washington Avenue. Police and Des Moines Fire Department rescue personnel were called to a home in the area around 6:00 a.m. on a report of a shooting.
A 44-year-old male was found to have been shot in the arm and chest. He was transported to a metro hospital for treatment and has since been released.
Sgt. Parizek said the suspect in the shooting left the scene before police arrived. As part of their investigation, detectives identified Tafolla as a suspect in the case. Police learned she had active arrest warrants out of California related to an assault with a firearm and theft of a vehicle.
A 3rd Watch patrol officer saw Tafolla walking in the 1800 block of Hickman Road on Tuesday just before 6:00 p.m., and she was taken into custody without incident.
Tafolla has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the September 7th shooting.
