DES MOINES, Iowa (KCAU) — Catelin Drey was officially sworn in at the Iowa State Capitol on Monday morning.
Drey was accompanied at the ceremony by her family and Senate Democratic Leader Janice Weiner.
After the ceremony, Drey said she’s thankful to those who voted her into the Iowa Senate.
“I’m grateful for the trust voters in Senate District 1 have placed in me, and I couldn’t be prouder to represent them in the Iowa Senate,” Drey said. “I ran because I don’t think that politicians in Des Moines are working to better the lives of children and families. I am ready to get to work, fully funding public education and tackling the affordability crisis plaguing our housing, healthcare, and childcare.”
Weiner said that she is thrilled to have Drey on the Iowa Senate.
“Senator Drey will be a fierce advocate for Iowa families and an outstanding addition to the team,” Sen. Weiner (D-Iowa City) said. “Her victory is a clear indication that Iowans are sick and tired of single-party rule – they want senators who actually listen to them. Breaking the supermajority in the Iowa Senate is the first step on the road to creating a better deal for all Iowans, and I’m thrilled to have Senator Drey on board.”
Drey was elected to represent Iowa Senate District 1 on August 26. Iowa Senate District 1 includes Lawton and most of the Sioux City metro.
