DES MOINES, Iowa — The Final Salute is asking members of the public to attend the 2025 Unclaimed Veterans Service.

The Final Salute’s goal is to reunite each unclaimed urn with family members. If that is not possible, the organization will secure a final resting place. The 12 veterans and one spouse will be honored in a service on October 4, at the Lutheran Church of Hope in Waukee.

“The very first year that we did this service, there was three veterans,” said Lanae Strovers with The Final Salute “We did not know what to expect. We kind of just put it out there on Facebook and thought hopefully a few people will show up. And there was a couple hundred people.”
