DES MOINES, Iowa — Some new residents have moved in at the Blank Park Zoo.
Zoo officials announced in a post on Facebook Tuesday that Line Seahorses, or Hippocampus Erectus, are now on display just outside of the Discovery Center.
The seahorses were captive-bred and came from North Carolina as part of an AZA Species Survival Plan. According to the zoo, Line Seahorses face threats like habitat loss, overfishing, and water pollution.
This year, the zoo has become home to several new animals, including sharks, cotton-top tamarins, a Japanese macaque, and more.
Tickets to the zoo can be purchased online or at the gate. The zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
