DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines School Board Chair Jackie Norris launched her bid for the Democratic primary for the Iowa U.S. Senate race several weeks ago.

On Tuesday, incumbent Senator Joni Ernst (R) announced her decision to not run for reelection. On the same day, Norris talked with WHO 13’s Zach Fisher about that decision; and expanded on issues she will be championing on the campaign trail.

Norris has a background in education, as she was a government teacher to students. She also served as Chief of Staff for former First Lady Michelle Obama. Currently, Norris is the President and owner of the Horizon Group, along with being the Chair of the Des Moines Public School Board.
