GUTHRIE COUNTY, Iowa — The body of a swimmer was recovered from Diamondhead Lake in Guthrie County on Saturday evening.
According to the Stuart Fire Department, around 4:40 p.m., crews were called to Diamondhead Lake on reports of a 35-year-old male swimmer who went under the water but never resurfaced.
Authorities say witnesses on the scene reported that the swimmer had gone beyond the roped-off swimming area and appeared to be struggling. Local agencies performed a preliminary search, which yielded no results.
The Midwest Regional Dive Team was called to assist in the search and arrived on scene around 6:25 p.m. The dive team located the body using sonar technology around 7:47 p.m. and was able to recover the body around 8:09 p.m.
The identity of the swimmer has not been released at this time.
