MASON CITY, Iowa — A Marshalltown man was arrested after police say he stole a vehicle and later led authorities on a chase in Mason City.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office says around 7:25 p.m. on Thursday, a deputy located a 2020 Chevrolet Trax, which had been reported stolen in Marshalltown earlier that day, on North Monroe in Mason City.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop of the vehicle, which fled and led law enforcement on a pursuit. Authorities say that during the pursuit, a passenger jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot. The driver eventually stopped near 5th Street NW and North Adams.
Authorities arrested 32-year-old Alexander Jordan Kew without incident. Kew was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and charged with 1st Degree Theft, Driving While Barred, and Eluding – Second Offense.
Authorities say the passenger has not been located. The vehicle is being returned to the owner in Marshalltown. Mason City Police and Iowa State Patrol assisted with this incident.
