Grimes baby dies after father admits to hitting her over 40 times

POLK COUNTY, Iowa — A two-month-old Grimes baby who officials said was beaten by her father earlier this month has died.

WHO 13 confirmed the information about the infant’s death with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

The child’s father, Dylan Brown, is accused of beating the child and the child’s mother at the family’s residence in the 600 block of NE Jacob Street in the early morning hours of August 7th. Emergency responders were called to the location after receiving a report that the baby was not breathing.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the child suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Brown was arrested in the evening of August 7th. He is charged with felony child endangerment-serious injury, felony domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow, and two counts of felony willful injury-causing serious injury.

Criminal complaints filed in the case said the mother of the child woke to Brown hitting the baby. When she tried to stop him, he hit her in the head and chased her out of the bedroom. Brown is accused of strangling her from a “Bear Hug” position until she passed out.

The complaints also said Brown admitted to investigators he struck the baby all over her body, more than 40 times. Officials said the victim, “…has injuries to the brain, vagina, left arm and temple.”

The PCSO said the investigation is ongoing, and its office will be working with the Polk County Attorney’s Office on possibly enhancing the charges.
