24-year-old arrested in connection with Prospect Park shooting incident

DES MOINES, Iowa — A 24-year-old has been arrested in connection with the Prospect Park shooting that injured one, Des Moines Police say.

According to the DMPD, around 7 p.m., officers were patrolling near 1225 Prospect Road when they heard gunfire. Officers responded and discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound; he was later transported to the hospital.

The adult male remains hospitalized, and there has been no update on his condition.

Authorities announced later that 24-year-old Gadoar Bijiek was arrested and charged with,

  • Attempted Murder – Class B Felony
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm – Class D Felony
  • Interference With a Weapon – Aggravated Misdemeanor

DMPD officers say the evidence indicates Bijiek intentionally shot the male victim. Authorities say the incident appears to be a deliberate and directed attack.

Bijiek has been taken to the Polk County Jail.
