Grimes father admitted to hitting two-month-old daughter over 40 times, court documents say

GRIMES, Iowa — Court documents reveal a Grimes man struck his two-month-old daughter more than 40 times “with as much force as he could” earlier this week, leaving the child in serious condition and on life support.

Dylan Brown

Dylan Brown, 23, is being held in the Polk County Jail on charges of felony child endangerment-serious injury, felony domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow, and two counts of felony willful injury-causing serious injury. His bond is set at $250,000 cash-only.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the charges stem from an incident in the early morning hours of August 7th, when emergency responders were called to a residence in the 600 block of NE Jacob Street on a report of a two-month-old not breathing.

The baby was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Thursday night, Brown was arrested in the case.

Court documents said the mother of the child awoke to Brown hitting the baby. When she tried to stop him, he hit her in the head and chased her out of the bedroom. Brown is accused of strangling the woman from a “Bear Hug” position until she passed out.

The complaints also said Brown admitted to striking the baby all over the body, more than 40 times. Officials said the victim, “…has injuries to the brain, vagina, left arm and temple.”

No contact orders have been granted to protect the mother and baby.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 18th.
