GLENWOOD, Iowa — The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation on Thursday released the names of the victims in a shooting and home explosion in a small western Iowa town.
At around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a report of a possible shooting and home explosion in the 400 block of North Grove Street in Glenwood. When first responders arrived, they located two adults with gunshot wounds outside of the home.
On Thursday afternoon, the Iowa DCI released the names of the shooting victims — married couple 38-year-old Brandon Oman and 35-year-old Stevie Oman. Brandon died from his injuries at the scene. Stevie was transported to a hospital where she later died.
Along with the victims’ identities, the DCI also released the name of their alleged shooter. According to the DCI, 71-year-old Dennis Burnell lived at the home where the explosion occurred and subsequently caught fire. The DCI said that officers took Burnell into custody as he exited his burning home. Burnell suffered critical injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
During a news conference Wednesday night, Glenwood Police Chief Eric Johansen reportedly said that shortly after the shooting an explosion occurred, leading to a fire that engulfed the home.
According to the DCI, the shooting resulted from an “interpersonal dispute between the parties.” The investigation into the shooting and explosion is ongoing.
