KNOXVILLE, Iowa — A man police say wrote threats on playing cards and distributed them at the Knoxville Walmart Monday night has been charged with threat of terrorism.
The Knoxville Police Department said William Kisling, 44, was arrested at his residence in Harvey following the incident. He is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were dispatched to the Walmart at 8:24 p.m. on a report of a potential threat. The store was being evacuated when police and deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrived.
A criminal complaint filed in the case said some of the playing cards the suspect distributed contained messages written on them, such as “‘Kill Yourself”, “NO WARNING SHOT”, and “MASS MURDER RAMPAGE.’”
Investigators identified Kisling as the suspect after surveillance video showed him leaving the store, entering a vehicle, and leaving the area.
Court documents said a vehicle linked to the suspect was found at his Harvey residence in the 200 block of Cinder Avenue. Kisling was found at the location and a search warrant was executed on his vehicle and home.
Police said Kisling admitted to distributing the playing cards at Walmart and was arrested. Cards matching those left at Walmart were found on him when he was taken into custody.
Kisling is being held in the Marion County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
