Teenage bicyclist hit by car in Pleasant Hill, taken to hospital

PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — A teenage bicyclist was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Pleasant Hill.

According to the Pleasant Hill Police Department, Polk County dispatch notified officers that a car had struck a bicyclist at University Avenue and NE 56th Street around noon Thursday.

Officers arrived on the scene and found the bicyclist trapped underneath the car and in need of extrication, according to Pleasant Hill PD. Authorities were able to extract the teenage bicyclist but found them unresponsive.

The bicyclist has been taken to a Des Moines hospital; there has been no update on their condition. Neither the driver of the vehicle nor the bicyclist has been identified at this time.

The Pleasant Hill Police Department, assisted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, has opened an investigation into the incident.
