DES MOINES, Iowa — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened late Monday night in Des Moines’ Southwestern Hills neighborhood.
Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer of the Des Moines Police Department, said officers responded to reports of a shooting at 2221 Stanton Avenue a little before 11:30 p.m. That’s just north of the Des Moines International Airport. When they arrived at the apartment complex, they found a 47-year-old man with a gunshot injury.
First aid, including CPR, was provided by DMPD officers until medics with the Des Moines Fire Department arrived, and he was transported to UnityPoint-Methodist Medical Center.
The man died at the hospital. His name has not been released.
Sgt. Parizek said the shooting appears to be a directed incident and there isn’t any indication there is ongoing danger to the neighborhood.

The investigation into the shooting continues. Information about a possible suspect in the shooting has not been released.
