DES MOINES, Iowa (KCAU) — Iowa Health Officials have confirmed a measles case in Western Iowa.
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has confirmed that an adult in Western Iowa has a case of the measles. HHS has also released potential exposure locations.
The affected individual is fully vaccinated and has not traveled outside of Iowa or come in contact with any previous confirmed measles cases, according to the HHS.
As of July 22, Iowa has eight confirmed cases. Across the United States there has been 1,309 confirmed cases of the measles, only 105 of them were vaccinated. According to the Iowa HHS, those who are vaccinated and get the measles will “typically experience milder illness and are less likely to spread the virus to others.”
Officials stated that the individual had visited locations in Sioux Center, Sheldon, and Hull prior to being diagnosed. Siouxland District Health offers vaccines every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Those interested are encouraged to call (712) 279-6119 to set up an appointment.
