ANKENY, Iowa — A 2-alarm fire resulted in the total loss of a home in Ankeny’s southwest side on Saturday.
According to the Ankeny Fire Department, just before 1 p.m., police and fire crews were called to the 4300 block of SW Ash Court after a neighbor called 911, saying the house was on fire.
As crews arrived on scene, they noticed a large plume of smoke and upgraded the call to a 2-alarm fire, which called in additional units from other fire departments. Crews at the scene then identified heavy flames in the attic of the residence.
Crews began efforts to knock down and extinguish the flames while others began aggressively searching the home for occupants or pets. A majority of the fire was extinguished from the exterior of the home with the assistance of a ladder truck’s elevated master stream.
Ankeny Fire says no one was home at the time of the fire and there have been no injuries reported. Crews were able to pull a dog and a cat from the fire before evacuating due to extreme fire conditions.
The owner of the home told WHO 13 News staff on scene that the home was a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation; no other information has been made available at this time.
The Ankeny Fire Department would like to thank these agencies for their assistance: Ankeny Police Department, Altoona Fire Department, Bondurant Fire Department, Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District, Mid-American Energy, Polk City Fire Department, and the Polk County Sherriff’s Office Communications Center.
