MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — One person suffered life-threatening injuries during a stabbing early Friday morning.
Medics were called to N 10th Avenue in Marshalltown just before 5 a.m. Friday, on a report of someone who was injured in an altercation. The Marshalltown Police Department said emergency crews later learned that the victim had been stabbed and slashed. The victim was transported to a local hospital but was later transferred to a Des Moines hospital due to life-threatening injuries. Police said the victim was reported to be in stable condition.
According to police, the suspect had fled from the scene before emergency crews arrived. A couple of hours later, at around 7 a.m., deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office located the man believed to be the stabbing suspect at a Casey’s on N 3rd Avenue. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Duckenson Augustin from Cedar Rapids, was taken into custody.
Police said Augustin and the victim knew each other and that the altercation was an isolated incident.
Augustin was booked into the Marshall County Jail on a charge of willful injury resulting in serious injury.
