Iowa DNR says swimming not advised at 12 state beaches this week

IOWA — On Friday, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said that swimming is not advised at 12 state beaches this week.

According to the DNR’s website, all 12 of the beaches were found to have E. coli levels higher than the state’s standard, with one beach, Lake Darling Beach, also exceeding the standard for Algal toxin. The affected beaches are listed below:

  • Backbone Beach in Delaware County
  • Beeds Lake Beach in Franklin County
  • Black Hawk Beach in Sac County
  • Blue Lake Beach in Monona County
  • Lake Ahquabi Beach in Warren County
  • Lake Darling Beach in Washington County
  • Lake Manawa Beach in Pottawattamie County
  • Lake of Three Fires Beach in Taylor County
  • Nine Eagles Beach in Decatur County
  • Pine Lake South Beach in Hardin County
  • Pleasant Creek Beach in Linn County
  • Union Grove Beach in Tama County

Many of these beaches have been under a swimming not recommended advisory for several weeks due to persistent high E. coli levels. Advisories will be in place until the levels drop below the state standard.

For more information about the advisories and the other state beaches, visit the DNR’s website. The website is updated every Friday with the most recent test results.
