IOWA — Iowa Health and Human Services has confirmed a seventh case of measles in Iowa.
On Monday, health officials announced a confirmed case of measles was reported in eastern Iowa in an adult patient who was fully vaccinated. Officials also said that this case is not believed to be linked to the previous cases in Iowa or any travel outside of the state.
Officials released a list of locations around eastern Iowa that the patient visited while contagious. Those locations include:
- Casey’s at 2699 Rockdale Road in Dubuque
- Dan and Debbie’s Creamery in Ely
- Fields of Fun Daycare in Cedar Rapids
- Amana Pharmacy in Amana
- North Liberty Pharmacy in North Liberty
- Casey’s at 1495 State Street in Ely
- Airport National Golf Range in Cedar Rapids
- State Hygienic Laboratory Specimen Drop-Off Vestibule in Coralville
According to Iowa HHS, so far there have been seven confirmed cases in the state this year and over 1,200 confirmed cases in the country. Of the cases 92% occurred in unvaccinated individuals and 8% occurred in individuals who received at least one dose of the MMR vaccine, HHS said.
Measles is a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease. Iowa HHS says that the most effective way to prevent the disease is the MMR vaccine. Iowa officials are now recommending an accelerated vaccine schedule due to the most recent confirmed case seemingly not being linked to the other cases.
