Plane makes “soft landing” outside Knoxville, FAA investigating

KNOXVILLE, Iowa — An investigation is underway after a plane made a “soft landing” outside Knoxville on Sunday morning.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, just after 10:15 a.m., dispatch received a call from MercyOne Communications Center advising an aircraft had gone down near 102nd Avenue and Jewell Drive.

Crews from Knoxville Township Fire Department and City Rescue, along with Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies, arrived on the scene and located the aircraft and its only occupant in a field.

According to first responders, the aircraft had made a soft landing into a soybean field. The pilot was not injured during the landing.

“It is unfortunate that the incident happened, but I am very thankful that there were no injuries and what appears to be very little property damage,” stated Sheriff Jason Sandholdt, Marion County SO.

The Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, has been contacted and will investigate the cause of the incident.
