DES MOINES, Iowa — One person was shot, and several others were injured during a holiday party in Des Moines’ southside overnight.
According to the Des Moines Police Department, officers were called to investigate reports of a large fight and multiple gunshots in the 2000 block of Meadow Chase Lane just after 12:15 a.m.
DMPD officers say they arrived and found a “chaotic scene,” with an estimated crowd of more than 50 people, many of whom were actively fighting.
Officers located a 41-year-old male with multiple gunshot injuries and began providing first aid, including application of a tourniquet to control bleeding. Other officers worked to bring the crowd under control.
Des Moines Fire Department medics transported the 41-year-old male to a local hospital, where he remains hospitalized.
A 40-year-old female and a 39-year-old female were assaulted during the fight; both were treated for minor injuries.
Authorities arrested 19-year-old Jeniah Perry, 37-year-old Ebony Scales, 37-year-old Danielle Jones, and 20-year-old Tahmari Farley at the scene. Each has been charged with Disorderly Conduct. A 16-year-old juvenile was also charged with Disorderly Conduct and has been referred to Juvenile Court.
According to police, evidence indicates that two guns were fired during the incident. Police say one handgun was recovered at the scene. Witnesses told authorities that the shooting suspect fled the scene prior to officers arriving.
The Des Moines Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Section has opened an investigation into this incident. Police say there has not been an arrest related to the shooting.
