WAUKEE, Iowa — A driver was arrested after they drove on a recreational trail in Waukee on Friday.
According to the Waukee Police Department, around 11:30 a.m., authorities received multiple calls of a vehicle driving dangerously on the recreational trail along SE L.A. Grant Parkway, near Waukee High School.
Callers also reported that the driver had narrowly missed several pedestrians as it moved westbound on the trail, Waukee police say.
Westcom dispatch and responding officers located the vehicle within minutes near the Ashworth Drive and Warrior Lane intersection.
Officers conducted a traffic stop and took the driver, a female resident of West Des Moines, into custody. She was charged with reckless driving and taken to the Dallas County Jail.
No injuries have been reported as a result of this incident.
Waukee Police Chief Chad McCluskey released this statement about the incident.
“This was not an act targeting pedestrians, but the driver’s actions were clearly reckless and
put lives at risk,” said Chief McCluskey. “The safety of our residents, families, and
visitors is our top priority – especially during large community events like today’s
Independence Day celebration. We have additional officers on duty for today’s events and
we remain ready to respond to any situation at a moment’s notice.”
