Happy 4th-cast! what the weekend brings you

DES MOINES, Iowa — Happy steamy 4th! Hope your weekend is off to a good start. We have changes ahead, starting with a very warm Friday night and taking us into Saturday storm chances.

We’ll be at a marginal risk for severe weather in the northwest Friday night and statewide Saturday. Below, I’ve placed the two short-term models we use most side by side for you to compare. Both models have similar timing with a round of scattered storms swinging through the I-35 corridor around 8 a.m. and another swinging in from the northwest along a cold front around 7 p.m. The severe weather threat is low but nonzero. We will be around Saturday evening to keep an eye on things.

Below, two computer models’ estimates of rainfall by Sunday. We’ll also see chances for storms late Tuesday into Wednesday, and perhaps beyond. As shown in Colorado State’s severe weather algorithm output below, severe chances will be present late Tuesday and on Friday.

Warm highs for the next six days are above, and your WHO 13 7-day forecasts are below. Have a great Independence Day!
