DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department says three people have been charged following a shooting incident early Friday morning in downtown.
According to the DMPD, just after 2:30 a.m., patrol officers were called to the 1400 block of Ingersoll Avenue on reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers learned the incident had occurred in the 200 block of Court Avenue, and the involved persons fled to the Ingersoll location.
Authorities say witnesses reported a dispute between several people that escalated when 38-year-old Antowarren Bailey reportedly said he was getting a gun from his vehicle. Police say 25-year-old Mikkah Lyke responded to Bailey by pulling a gun and firing a shot.
Police later identified a third person involved after 24-year-old Shateanna Vang was found to be in possession of a handgun.
Bailey has been charged with Public Intoxication and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon While Under the Influence. Lyke has been charged with Reckless Use of a Firearm. Lange has been charged with Public Intoxication and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon While Under the Influence.
Three handguns were recovered during the investigation. A handgun was recovered from Bailey’s vehicle, and two more were recovered from the involved persons.
Des Moines Police detectives are continuing the investigation into this incident. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
