Arrest made in overnight shooting that killed one man

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department says they have made an arrest in connection with the overnight shooting that killed one man.

31-year-old Tywone Morrow has been charged with 1st degree murder and assault on a police officer. Morrow was found to have an unrelated active arrest warrant for Violation of a No Contact Order at the time of the arrest.

Throughout the day, detectives have interviewed witnesses, examined evidence, and followed leads that led them to Morrow’s location on the west side of the city.

Authorities say evidence from the investigation indicates that during an argument, Morrow shot and killed the victim, an adult male.

Patrol officers and detectives stopped the vehicle Morrow was traveling in, and while Morrow was being taken into custody, he spat on the face of a detective sergeant.

Morrow has been booked into the Polk County Jail.

Des Moines Police say the name of the victim will be released pending complete family notifications.

Authorities say the investigation continues and more information will be released as it becomes available.
