What to expect for the July Fourthcast

IOWA — Showers near the Omaha area this morning should diminish as they move east. It will be another warm and muggy day and a warm night in central Iowa. Your weather timeline takes you into the Fourth of July.

We look to stay in the muggy/humid range as we head into the beginning of next week. Heat and moisture are two of the ingredients you need for thunderstorms. The third is a lifting mechanism to get air to rise. That will come in the form of a small disturbance aloft on Thursday.

This will kick off a few storms north Thursday morning, with a second round coming northeast and east Thursday afternoon, as the HRRR computer model shows below. The second set of images from the European model shows our next best chance of rain, which comes Saturday into Sunday morning as a cold front advances across the state.

Most models are giving us 0.25″ to 1″ between Thursday’s and the Saturday/Sunday rain chance. The severe threat is minimal. It likely won’t rain all day and evening on Saturday. Use the 13WarnMe app to pick windows to get outside that day.

Highs for the next 6 days are above, and WHO 13’s 7-day forecast below. Have a great hump day!
