TAMA COUNTY, Iowa — One person sustained serious injuries following a single-vehicle rollover crash in Tama County on Saturday morning.
According to the Tama County Sheriff’s Office, just before 6:30 a.m., deputies responded to reports of a rollover crash in the 1200 block of Highway 63.
Citizens were first on scene and assisted until emergency crews arrived. Deputies say the driver had not been wearing a seatbelt and had been thrown from the vehicle. They sustained serious injuries.
Authorities say the initial investigation indicates the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when they lost control on the curve and overcorrected. The vehicle then rolled multiple times while remaining on the roadway, striking both shoulders before coming to a rest on the road.
The Tama County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, Traer Ambulance, Traer Fire Department, and area residents.
