DMPD: Child rescued, man missing along Des Moines River

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines first responders are searching for a missing man in the Des Moines River downtown.

According to the DMPD, crews were called to the Des Moines River near the SE 6th Street bridge shortly before 4:30 p.m. on a 911 caller who reported a child in the river.

Des Moines police and fire crews arrived on scene and were able to assist that child out of the water from the bank.

The DMFD Water Emergency Team (WET) has deployed a crew to assist in searching for an adult male who was reportedly with the child in the water.


Authorities say to expect an increased first responder presence on bridges and riverbanks near the downtown area.

This is an active investigation; more information will be released as it becomes available.
