JEFFERSON, Iowa — A Greene County woman was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Friday afternoon.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, just before 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Greene County deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the 2200 block of M Avenue in Jefferson.

Deputies on the scene arrived and found 54-year-old Richard Thompson deceased in the residence. 49-year-old Christene Thompson was arrested on the scene and charged with first-degree murder.

Authorities have opened an investigation into the incident. They say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson Police Department, Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa State Patrol, and Greene County Ambulance.
