Iowa woman charged in fatal wrong-way crash in Story County

STORY COUNTY, Iowa — An Iowa woman has been charged in connection to a fatal wrong-way crash on Highway 30 in Story County in May.

On Wednesday, May 28 at roughly 11:30 p.m. the Story County Sheriff’s Office responded to a head-on, wrong-way crash that occurred at Highway 30 and Sand Hill Trail. According to the sheriff’s office, 41-year-old Ashley Taylor was driving her Jeep Renegade westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 30 when she crashed head-on with a Chevrolet Impala.

Taylor was seriously injured in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the Impala, identified as 26-year-old Christian Royston, died from his injuries at the scene.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office announced that multiple charges have been filed against Taylor for the deadly crash. Those charges include:

Ashley Taylor (WHO 13).
  • Homicide by Vehicle
  • Homicide by Vehicle – Reckless Driving
  • Operating While Intoxicated
  • Driving While Suspended
  • Driving on the Wrong Side of Highway

Taylor was arrested and booked into the Story County Jail on Monday on an over $250,000 bond.
