Forecast: Steamy Sunday, then stormy

DES MOINES, Iowa — We began Saturday with a record warm low in Des Moines, and we could do the same thing on Sunday as another hot, steamy, and breezy one is on tap. Your weather timeline walks you through it.

An extreme heat warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. on Sunday, with a heat advisory covering the rest of the area. We’ll see a little relief Monday as rain chances begin to increase. But we’ll stay muggy through the week.

Slight chances for severe weather begin in the northwest late Sunday. As you can see in Colorado State’s severe weather output below, at least parts of Iowa have a chance to see a strong storm every day into the weekend.

The timing of the storms can be found in the gallery below, with chances starting late Monday and continuing every day intermittently through the end of the week. Rainfall amounts could be impressive in spots by the weekend.

Highs for the next six days are above, and your WHO 13 7-day forecast is below.

The extended outlooks below look to keep us on the warm side of things, and with at least a few severe weather chances.
