Search for missing swimmer at Raccoon River Park suspended due to nightfall

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Authorities have suspended the search for a missing swimmer who never resurfaced at the Raccoon River Park beach due to nightfall.

The West Des Moines Police and Fire Departments were called to the Raccoon River Park around 5:30 p.m. after callers reported seeing a swimmer go under the water but never resurfacing.

Authorities and rescue crews have been searching along the Raccoon River Park beach for over five hours but called off the search due to nightfall.

WDPD Sgt. Wade told WHO 13 News that the search for the missing swimmer will resume Monday morning.

The Raccoon River Park closed their beach area and asks visitors to respect the tape and stay clear of the area.
