NEWTON, Iowa — A death investigation is underway in Newton after authorities discovered a body while executing a search warrant Monday night.
The Newton Police Department said local, county, and federal law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at 1210 N 4th Ave E around 7:03 p.m. The action was part of an ongoing investigation. During the search of the home, a body was discovered. NPD said the person was determined to have died before law enforcement arrived.
NPD and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating the death. An autopsy will be performed by the Office of the State Medical Examiner to determine the cause and manner of death.
Police are not releasing the deceased individual’s name until the family has been notified.
NPD said there is no known ongoing threat to the community at this time.
