DES MOINES, Iowa — On Thursday, the Des Moines Police Department released the name of the motorcyclist who was killed in a crash on Wednesday.
Just after 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday emergency crews responded to a report of a car vs. motorcycle crash at the intersection of SW 9th Street and Luster Lane near the Blank Park Zoo.
According to the DMPD, by the time medics arrived at the crash scene the motorcyclist had died from his injuries. On Thursday afternoon, the DMPD identified the motorcyclist as 40-year-old Matthew Rex Ringgenberg of Des Moines.
The car involved in the crash was occupied by three people. The driver, identified as an adult female, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The DMPD said as of Thursday afternoon she remained hospitalized. The two passengers were not injured in the crash.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing. No additional information has been released.
The DMPD said this is the fifth traffic-related death in the city this year.
