Semi driver found guilty of vehicular homicide in tow-truck driver’s death

POLK COUNTY, Iowa – A Michigan semi-truck driver was convicted Monday in the 2023 death of an Adel tow-truck driver.

A Polk County jury found Dmytro Prysich, 55, guilty of vehicular homicide while under the influence. He was acquitted of leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

Prysich hit and killed Joshua Villa, 45, near the 86th Street exit in Urbandale on November 12, 2023. Villa was loading a disabled vehicle onto his tow truck when the incident happened. Villa was pronounced dead at the scene.

Clive police arrested Prysich a short time later and blood tests showed he had an alcohol level of .196.

Prysich faces 25 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 10th.
