Some of the heaviest rain of the season hits Iowa tonight

DES MOINES, Iowa — Heavy rain is on the way tonight with a few strong to severe storms possible in southern Iowa. The heaviest rain this morning fell in southern Iowa with around an inch in Centerville. This same area could see another inch or two by Tuesday morning.

The strongest storms will be missing most of Iowa tonight. The target for all modes of severe weather is highlighted in red over Missouri.

Southern Iowa is highlighted in yellow showing a slight risk for hail tonight before 8 PM. A few strong storms will start to pop as early as 5 PM close to Lamoni and Osceola. If you hear thunder roar, please go indoors. Heavy rain is likely tonight with some of the heaviest falling overnight.

The wind will stay strong out of the east today and tonight with gusts as high as 45 MPH. The temperatures remain too cool, which creates a low instability for a widespread severe weather outbreak.

The heaviest rain will move out of Iowa by Tuesday morning. It is going to be the coolest on Wednesday.
