DES MOINES, Iowa — Hundreds of high school students were recognized during the Governor Scholar Program Ceremony, where Governor Reynolds praised the students’ hard work.
Each year, the Governor’s Office, IHSAA, and the Iowa Farm Bureau come together to honor Iowa’s top academic students. Two seniors from Iowa’s largest 64 schools, and one senior from every other school in the state, are selected as the highest academic achievers for their first seven semesters in school.
Students receive a plaque and certificate commemorating their achievement and get an opportunity for a handshake and photo with the governor.
During the ceremony, Reynolds praised the students for the hard work displayed throughout their high school years.
“It wasn’t just one test, or one grade, it was late nights and early mornings, sacrifices and choices. You chose to show up and work hard, you chose to make the most of every opportunity before you, even when it wasn’t easy or convenient, and that matters,” said Governor Reynolds.
The Governor’s Scholar Program is in its 22nd year, and it continues to grow each year.
