ANKENY, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources said on Wednesday that sewage has entered Saylor Creek in Ankeny.
According to the DNR, roughly 5,000 to 10,000 gallons of untreated wastewater entered the creek because of a broken force main near a lift station in the 900 block of SW Ankeny Road.
The DNR said the sewage has been prevented from entering the creek further and that no dead fish have been observed at the location or downstream. The DNR is asking people to avoid the creek at this time.
Ankeny city crews will repair the force main, the DNR said.
