DES MOINES, Iowa — One person was seriously injured in a shooting Monday evening.

At around 6:10 p.m. DMPD officers responded to a report of a shooting at a residence in the 1600 block of East University Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. DMPD said the victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting was targeted and that there’s no ongoing danger to the neighborhood, police said.

When the shooting occurred a track meet involving middle school students was taking place at Williams Stadium. Police said the meet has been canceled out of an abundance of caution.

No additional information has been released.
