DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines firefighters battled a house fire near Evelyn K Davis Park Tuesday evening.
Firefighters responded to a report of a house fire in the 1300 block of 11th Street at around 7 p.m. When firefighters arrived at the home they found heavy, black smoke billowing from the building and an active fire.
A WHO 13 crew at the scene captured photos showing flames coming from the front of the home.
According to a resident at the scene, the home was one of 15 Kingdom Living sober-living houses in the metro. The resident told WHO 13 that he was woken up from a nap when he heard yelling. He tried to escape the burning home, but found the front entrance to be blocked, and instead had to escape out of the back of the home.
