DES MOINES, Iowa — Police are still searching for the driver of a minivan that injured three pedestrians in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night on Des Moines’ southside.
First responders were called to the 800 block of Army Post Rd. around 7:40 p.m. on a report of two pedestrians who had been struck by a vehicle, Des Moines Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek said.
When police and Des Moines Fire Department rescue crews arrived, two adult males were found unconscious in the roadway. They were transported to local hospitals. Both are still hospitalized, a 42-year-old in critical condition and a 45-year-old in serious condition.
Sgt. Parizek said a 25-year-old man also reported being struck by the van and suffered a minor foot injury. He declined medical treatment.
The names of those hurt in the crash have not been released.
According to DMPD’s preliminary investigation, the three pedestrians were crossing Army Post Road to the north when they were hit by an eastbound minivan that did not stop. Police located a minivan fitting the description provided by witnesses that had damage consistent with the reported crash a short time after the incident in the 6500 block of Chaffee Road. The vehicle was impounded.
Police say at this time they don’t know who was driving the vehicle when it struck the pedestrians. The investigation into the incident continues.
