DES MOINES, Iowa — Over the past week a post published on Facebook that claims Caitlin Clark is purchasing the Salisbury House and Gardens has garnered the attention of thousands.

The post, published on April 5 by the account HerGame Hoops, claims Clark is investing $3.3 million to turn the Salisbury House into a living facility for homeless youth. Many people who saw the post believed the news to be true, while others questioned the legitimacy of the information.

Several days after the post was made, the official account for the Salisbury House and Gardens commented on the post, saying the news was not true. The comment reads:

“While we love Ms. Clark and know that she is doing truly amazing things for her community and the state of Iowa, she is not purchasing Salisbury House and Gardens. All publicity is good publicity we guess? We are a historic house museum located in Des Moines, Iowa. Come visit us for a tour if you’re ever in the area!”

Salisbury House and Gardens began as a home built for Carl Weeks, a cosmetics magnate, and his wife Edith in the 1920s. Roughly ten years later in 1934 the home was gifted to Drake University and in 1954 was sold to the Iowa State Education Association to be used as their headquarters. The home was sold again and was turned into a museum in the late ’90s.
