Webster City lineman injured by live wire during blizzard recovery; fundraisers created

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa — The Webster City community is coming together to help a city lineman who was seriously injured when he came in contact with a live wire last week.

City Manager John Harrenstein said in a statement released to the local paper, The Daily Freeman-Journal, that an employee with the city’s electric department was injured by a live wire while working to restore power to the city after a blizzard blew through on March 19. The city confirmed the news to WHO 13 on Tuesday.

Since the accident, the community has shown an outpouring of support for the lineman, identified as Bryan Dayton, and has organized multiple fundraisers to benefit him and his family. According to a flier posted to social media that details some of the fundraising efforts, Dayton suffered severe burns and was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for treatment.

The Daily Freeman-Journal reported that an account named Dayton Strong was created at WCF Financial Bank, 401 Fair Meadow Drive, P.O. Box 638, in Webster City to raise funds to aid in Dayton’s recovery and support his family.

A GoFundMe has also been created to benefit Dayton and his family with a goal of raising $50,000. As of Tuesday evening, over $27,000 had been raised.
