AMES, Iowa — An Ames man is behind bars, charged with attempted murder after a shooting in the parking lot of a convenience store.
Tommy Thompson, 18, is being held in the Story County Jail in connection with the shooting at the Casey’s at 3218 Orion Drive. Major Dan Walter of the Ames Police Department said the shooting happened at 11:48 p.m. Tuesday during an altercation between Thompson and the victim.
Mary Greeley Medical Center notified police around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday about a gunshot victim receiving treatment at the hospital. The victim suffered a wound to the arm and was treated and released.
During the investigation, Ames police learned the shooting took place in the parking lot of the Casey’s.
Officers located Thompson’s vehicle at 3500 Grand Avenue and he was taken into custody around 3:00 a.m.
