Man critically injured after being hit by vehicle in northeast Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa — A pedestrian was critically injured after being hit by a vehicle early Wednesday morning in the northeast part of the Des Moines metro.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened just before 2:00 a.m. near the eastbound entrance ramp to I-35/80 from the southbound lanes of NE 14th Street. When deputies arrived, they found an adult male with critical injuries.

The man was transported to a Des Moines hospital by Ankeny EMS. The man’s name has not been released.

The PCSO said the driver of the vehicle that struck the man stayed on the scene and is cooperating.

The investigation into what caused the accident is ongoing and more details will be released as they become available.
