Smash Park hosts Giant Pong for Saint Patrick’s Day

DES MOINES, Iowa — Smash Park hosted a giant pong tournament as part of the weekend Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Smash Park kicked things off with their classic giant pong tournament. The game consists of guests splitting into sixteen teams and throwing volleyballs into large garbage cans. Each team was competing for various prizes such as gift cards, swag bags, and the opportunity to be featured on their championship wall.

“This, to me is what it’s all about, getting to connect with our guests, connect with our community, give everybody a chance to have a great time without breaking the bank,” said don Garrett, Smash Park General Manager. “Everybody has a chance to get together, commune, have a good time.”

Liam Anderson and Shannon Carroll frequent Smash Park but celebrated their First Saint Patrick’s Day weekend there.

“We signed up for this giant pong tournament…thought we were going to win…we got double elimination, lost both first and second game,” said Anderson.

While the tournament wasn’t a success, they say the rest of the evening definitely was.

“It’s great I love it; everyone is all dressed up and having a good time,” said Carroll. “Oh yeah, going out to fun atmospheres like this, getting a drink, having fun at the park is a perfect holiday,” said Anderson.

The festivities continue on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a kid friendly Leprechaun Brunch Bingo offering goodie bags and free arcade games.
