When will the leaves change colors this fall?

DES MOINES, Iowa — According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the peak time this fall to see the leaves change colors is still a few weeks away.

Jeff Goerndt, a State Forester with the Iowa DNR, said that the weather is one of the factors that impacts when the leaves change.

“This drier weather we’ve had recently tends to kind of slow things down as long as it’s moderately dry, which most of the state is seeing right now, we don’t really have any areas of severe drought. So we should still have good color, probably more like mid to late October for a peak here,” Goerndt said.
